They work closely with non-medical professionals, such as psychologists, physical therapists, psychomotor therapists, speech therapists, social workers, educators, and classroom support aides.

Typically in Italy, the pediatric psychiatrist is the reference person for a child with physical and/or developmental difficulties. They also contribute to the assessment and intervention process for conditions of fatigue in children and adolescents.

They also have an advisory role for schools, under the Law 104/92. The pediatric psychiatrist, together with the pediatrician, act as a reference point for families in regards to relevant medical problems.
